Rinofren consists of Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride.
Acetaminophen - Acetaminophen, also known as paracetamol, is commonly used for its analgesic and antipyretic effects. Its therapeutic effects are similar to salicylates, but it lacks anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet, and gastric ulcerative effects.
Indication: For temporary relief of fever and minor aches and pains.
Rinofren (Acetaminophen) (USAN) or Paracetamol (INN) is a widely used analgesic and antipyretic drug that is used for the relief of fever, headaches, and other minor aches and pains. It is a major ingredient in numerous cold and flu medications and many prescription analgesics. It is extremely safe in standard doses, but because of its wide availability, deliberate or accidental overdoses are not uncommon. Acetaminophen, unlike other common analgesics such as aspirin and ibuprofen, has no anti-inflammatory properties or effects on platelet function, and it is not a member of the class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs. At therapeutic doses Rinofren (Acetaminophen) does not irritate the lining of the stomach nor affect blood coagulation, kidney function, or the fetal ductus arteriosus (as NSAIDs can). Like NSAIDs and unlike opioid analgesics, Rinofren (Acetaminophen) does not cause euphoria or alter mood in any way. Rinofren (Acetaminophen) and NSAIDs have the benefit of being completely free of problems with addiction, dependence, tolerance and withdrawal. Rinofren (Acetaminophen) is used on its own or in combination with pseudoephedrine, dextromethorphan, chlorpheniramine, diphenhydramine, doxylamine, codeine, hydrocodone, or oxycodone.
Chlorpheniramine Maleate - Chlorpheniramine belongs to a group of medications known as first-generation antihistamines. For adults and children 6 years of age and older, it is used to treat symptoms caused by allergies, including itchy and watery eyes, sneezing, runny nose, and skin rash and irritations. It is also used to manage itchy skin caused by insect bites, and other medical conditions like chicken pox or measles. Chlorpheniramine works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance released by cells in the body that produce allergy symptoms.

It is mainly used to treat nasal congestion, but may also be useful in treating hypotension and shock, hypotension during spinal anaesthesia, prolongation of spinal anaesthesia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, symptomatic relief of external or internal hemorrhoids, and to increase blood pressure as an aid in the diagnosis of heart murmurs.

Rinofren (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride) is a powerful vasoconstrictor. It is used as a nasal decongestant and cardiotonic agent. Rinofren (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride) is a postsynaptic α1-receptor agonist with little effect on β-receptors of the heart. Parenteral administration of Rinofren (Phenylephrine Hydrochloride) causes a rise in systolic and diastolic pressures, a slight decrease in cardiac output, and a considerable increase in peripheral resistance; most vascular beds are constricted, and renal, splanchnic, cutaneous, and limb blood flows are reduced while coronary blood flow is increased. Phenelephrine also causes pulmonary vessel constriction and subsequent increase in pulmonary arterial pressure. Vasoconstriction in the mucosa of the respiratory tract leads to decreased edema and increased drainage of sinus cavities.
Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride - An alpha- and beta-adrenergic agonist that may also enhance release of norepinephrine. It has been used in the treatment of several disorders including asthma, heart failure, rhinitis, and urinary incontinence, and for its central nervous system stimulatory effects in the treatment of narcolepsy and depression. It has become less extensively used with the advent of more selective agonists.
Indication: For the treatment of nasal congestion, sinus congestion, Eustachian tube congestion, and vasomotor rhinitis, and as an adjunct to other agents in the optimum treatment of allergic rhinitis, croup, sinusitis, otitis media, and tracheobronchitis. Also used as first-line therapy of priapism.
Rinofren (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) is a sympathomimetic agent, structurally similar to ephedrine, used to relieve nasal and sinus congestion and reduce air-travel-related otalgia in adults. The salts Rinofren (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) hydrochloride and Rinofren (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) sulfate are found in many over-the-counter preparations either as single-ingredient preparations, or more commonly in combination with antihistamines and/or paracetamol/ibuprofen. Unlike antihistamines, which modify the systemic histamine-mediated allergic response, Rinofren (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) only serves to relieve nasal congestion commonly associated with colds or allergies. The advantage of oral Rinofren (Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) over topical nasal preparations, such as oxymetazoline, is that it does not cause rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
